OUR
MISSION
To Put Christian principles into practice through programs that promote healthy lifestyles, strong families, and positive youth development to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all regardless of ability to pay.
YMCA: BUILDING STRONG FAMILIES
Current health statistics clearly illustrate ‘why’ it’s so important for kids and adults alike to lead healthier lifestyles. At the YMCA, we believe families that are strong play a critical role in ‘how’ to make it happen.
-
Families grow stronger and healthier by focusing goals on more than just adding minutes of exercise and cutting out unhealthy snacks.
-
Goals which balance, nurture and strengthen spirit, mind and body are the key to building healthier families for the long term. It’s really the ultimate exercise.
-
Studies confirm again and again the important role that family interaction and strengthening play in the long-term health and well being of its individual members.
-
Participating in family rituals that foster togetherness and communication is strongly linked to adolescent mental health. Teens who eat with their families most days have better grades and less depression and substance abuse than kids who frequently eat on their own.
-
University studies show that young kids and teens whom eat regularly with their families eat more fruits, vegetables, fiber and whole grains and consume less soda and snack food.
-
A 2004 YMCA of the USA study found that parents who received support from community organizations such as YMCAs reported positive experiences for their children, saying the programs enabled their children to engage with other kids, provided positive influence and offered role models.
LOCKERS
The YMCA has lockers available at no cost for day use. If you would like to rent a locker for the year the cost is $50 for small lockers and $75 for large lockers.
CHILD WATCH RATES & HOURS
You must call ahead to reserve a spot. There is a limit of 10 kids at a time. Child Watch is for infants to pre-school. Child watch is for those participating in YMCA activities.
Child Watch Hours:
Fee: $1 per hour for first child,
$0.50 for second child.
THE AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
The After School Club is a program for school-age children in kindergarten through
5th grade. The children involved in the ASC are able to ride a
bus from the school each day and participate in a number of
organized activities including: Arts and Crafts, Homework Help,
Interest Centers, Sports and Games, and Guest Speakers. A daily
snack is also provided. Program hours are 3:00-6:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday. Fees are $20 for the first child and $17 for
each additional child in the family. The hours are extended for
early dismissal days, but hours do not include holidays or snow
days. Our caring staff ensures this is a fun and safe
environment. The ASC begins on the first day of school. For more information contact the YMCA 660-258-2388.
INSURANCE
The YMCA does not carry health or accident insurance on each of its members/program participants. Everyone enrolled in any class or working out on their own should make provision with their
family health insurance provider. Participants are required to pay all expenses incurred from their participation in YMCA activities. Everyone is strongly encouraged to have his/her physician’s approval before beginning an
exercise program. The YMCA assumes no responsibility for injuries or loss of personal property while using the facilities.
PARTNERS
WITH YOUTH CAMPAIGN
It has been the YMCA's philosophy, both nationally and in the
Linn County area, to assure that its facilities and programs are
open to all regardless of race, religion, age, handicap,
national origin, or inability to pay. We are particularly
concerned here in North Central Missouri that children from
lower income homes have the same opportunity to become involved
with the YMCA as children who are more economically advantaged.
Therefore, the NCM YMCA actively promotes a scholarship program
which provides Y memberships and programs for people in the
lower economic conditions. You may help the YMCA in this
endeavor through gifts to the YMCA Partners with Youth Program.
Contributions are tax deductible. Any size contribution helps,
but keep in mind that it costs an average of $75 per child per
year to provide scholarships. Please contact
Lorin Affield, Executive Director, for more information on
this worthwhile cause.
